According to the 2008 statistics the rate of pregnancies for adolescents in the US was 39.5 per 1,000 for ages 15-17 and 114 per 1,000 for adolescents 18-19. In Texas, there were 46.9 per 1,000 estimated teen births aged 15-19 in 2011, compared to the 31.3 for United States. Texas was also ranked 5 out of 51 (including the District of Columbia) on 2011's teenager birth rates aged 15-19, with 1 representing the highest rate and 51 being the lowest.
Is the problem more frequent among African-Americans, Hispanics, Asians or Native Americans, compared to Whites? American Indian and Alaska Natives, Hispanics, and black teens are about 1.5X more likely to have a repeat teen birth, compared to white teens, according to the CDC. Of all births to teenagers under 20 years in 2011 of Texas, Hispanics had the highest percentage of 64%. Non-Hispanic whites had 21%; Non-Hispanic blacks had 14%; and Asian or Pacific Islanders had 1%.
